![]() Often confused with an Old Fashioned (see my article on the difference between an Old Fashioned and a Manhattan here), a Manhattan is typically made with a whiskey base spirit, a ratio of sweet vermouth and bitters. Let’s get back to our apple brandy drink recipe! What is a Manhattan Cocktail? I typically use Copper & Kinds Floodwall aged brandy or Laird’s AppleJack – usually their bonded version for a high bump of proof and flavor. Modern methods of Applejack production typically don’t use that method to remove water from the distillate, and today’s Applejack is typically a blend of apple brandy and neutral grain spirits.įor this cocktail, we want to stay away from the low-quality apple schnapps and use a quality apple brandy. As the months got colder and the temperature drop farmers in the colonial era would skim the ice from the surface of the cider and it would increase in proof over time. Historically, this was done with large batches of fermented apple cider left out over the winter. This kind of process is also called fractional freezing. Traditionally, Applejack was made by jacking – freezing a spirit to a cold enough temperature that the water in the distillate would freeze and could be removed from the spirit – increasing proof and flavor. It’s made in a way where excess water from distillation is removed in order to increase proof and build up the flavor profile of the spirit. Applejack is a form of apple brandy, a spirit made from fermented and distilled apples. (Post may contain affiliate links.) What is Applejack or Apple Brandy? Apple Manhattan The two tweaks to a standard Manhattan recipe, adding in a touch of applejack or apple brandy, and concentrating on baking spice notes in the bitters makes this a beautiful sip on a fall evening. Featuring bourbon, apple brandy, vermouth, and bitters this autumn whiskey cocktail keeps the flavor profile of a true Manhattan cocktail while elevating the flavors of fall with apple brandy and fall-themed bitters. She tops off her successful night with a runway presentation that’s, well … perfect! The storyline is clear and funny, and I don’t even know what kind of Florida swamp witch drag magic resulted in a burn mark magically appearing on her hand. That said, you can only access that sort of critique when there’s literally nothing else wrong with you, so let’s give credit where credit is due. One need only look over to Kylie to see the difference between true emotional vulnerability and Ginger’s pageant showmanship. When the challenge is to draw an audience in with the vulnerability of a childhood story, a hyper-scripted, unflinchingly perfect monologue can give the impression of insincerity. But … has Ginger girlbossed a little too close to the sun? Carson’s critique of Ginger this week highlights the downside of that perfectionist veneer: “Sometimes, it’s so finely polished, so perfect, that it doesn’t seem as real to us in the moment.” The judges throwing in a half-assed “but was it too perfect …?” critique is nothing new to the Drag Race Cinematic Universe, but I do think this one holds some water. She received glowing praise from the judges, captivated the audience with a well-spun childhood yarn detailing a touching moment between mom and gay son, and remained polished as ever. Despite another “bottom four” placement in this episode, it’s hard to view this episode as anything other than a victory for Ginger. Ginger has performed quite well this season: she’s stayed consistent as hell, she’s got two wins under her belt (plus mini challenges), and her runways have markedly improved since her appearances on season seven and All Stars 2. Next up, Ginger, who by all accounts remains our statistical frontrunner going into the finale next week. So there you have it! I’ve made no secret of it: Ra’Jah is my pick to win this season. If we’re scouring the edit for clues indicating which queen the show might be teeing up for a crowning, this moment stands out. ![]() Since the moment doesn’t necessarily serve the narrative of this episode, it feels like a very intentional choice to leave it in. ![]() During critiques, we see Ru gush over Ra’Jah’s journey and marvel at the fact that she’s made every look she’s worn on the runway this season. While Ra’Jah stumbles at the beginning of her monologue, she executes an impressive recovery and acts out a dynamic, entertaining story about the time her tuck came loose in the middle of a number. It’s not a perfect system, of course (think Gottmik or Gigi Goode), but there’s a distinct advantage to earning the goodwill of the queen whose name is on the checks. Symone got it, Aquaria got it, Sasha Velour got it. There is no better boon for a Ru girl than that sweet RuPaul seal of approval. From the talent show to the ball, to Snatch Game, to “Isiya Queen,” Ra’Jah has shown us the wide breadth of her drag abilities and converted quite a few fans along the way. Tonight was only her second time “in the bottom,” and it’s hard to dwell on that considering her string of high placements, particularly those early in the season. From villain to darling, from filler to finalist, what’s not to love? But beyond the narrative satisfaction a Ra’Jah win offers, she’s also had a pretty unimpeachable run. Hand on the Bible! Or at least a copy of “GuRu.” As I’ve explained (perhaps ad nauseam) in past recaps, Ra’Jah has had one of the most unique about-faces in All Stars herstory. While it’s anyone’s game, I genuinely believe Ra’Jah O’Hara has the best shot at taking the crown next week. So, behold: my unscientific, completely arbitrary rankings of our lovely top four. While my own personal preferences and undisguised biases will be very apparent, my goal is to rank the queens on the basis of how likely they are to win. monologues (Ru’s words, not mine!) This is my final chance to lay out the pros and cons of each queen going into the finale, so I decided to take a page out of Drag Race herstorian and fellow recapper Kevin O’Keeffe’s book and make a good old-fashioned power ranking. But to claim their finalist spot, our five remaining queens must duke it out beatnik-style with the C.U.N.T. After today’s episode, we’re left with our final final top four. ![]() ![]() Floating Clock on top of the other apps. To get the idrive going, I drove to the Radio Shack and bought a pack of four fuses.Ī few days later, I received the fuses from Wayne Dalton (see photo below). It could be purchased at Radio Shack, but they will send me the part for free. The customer service explained to me that the fuse it uses is the 250-volt, 4-amp slow-blow fuse (see photo below). The white panel on the right covers the motor control circuit board (see photo below) and the power circuit.Ī fuse is on the top left hand corner of the circuit board. In the end, they asked me to remove the white panel on the right by unscrewing two Philip screws on the bottom. They led me though a number of sequence to deduce the problem. Calling the customer service resolved the problem quickly. When I pushed the up/down button and the profile button, the garage door opener just chirped and beeped. At one point, it stopped moving altogether. But nevertheless, it had caused my Wayne Dalton idrive for Torsion Spring to fail. Whether it's due to the earth shifting or the old cable drum about to fail is still being debated. Recently, my garage door became off-balance. If our light module is what you need, I'm sure we can come to some arrangement.Wayne Dalton idrive Troubleshooting Tip #1 - Check the Fuse I can only *guess* that the light modules are the same. I can no longer find the original light module (maybe we got rid of it), but ISTR that it had a sensor next to the red button.īTW, ours is the iDrive for Torsion Springs, not the iDrive TorqueMaster. How to tell the difference? The only way I know is that the original one had a hole near the red button on the opener, with the IR diode peeking through that hole. When that all went kaput a couple of years ago W-D sent a complete new unit - the one that has recently quit and cannot be repaired. Have you tried cleaning the contact on the bulb socket? Have you tried retraining the light to the opener?ĭo you know which kind of opener/light module combination you have? Our original one had an infra-red link between the opener and the light module, but this gave a lot of trouble and W-D sent a replacement circuit board and light module which used a radio-frequency link. Our light module seemed to act up a few times over the past few months, but I think it was really just a poor contact with the center contact on the bulb. Those poor German workers! Fancy being paid even less than Chinese workers so that they can keep their jobs! *It really does seem to have been made in Germany, not in China with a German company's name on it. It is very quiet but significantly slower than the iDrive (which was claimed to be much faster than other drives).Ĭons: a) the wall station is not wireless as the iDrive's was, so there is additional wiring to run b) the iDrive had a delayed-closing feature, so that I could press the button and walk out through the still-open door, which would then close behind me c) no staples were included, so I had to make a special trip to the store to buy some to staple the wiring in place. A metal arm connects the door to a carriage containing that motor. The design is very simple: a 24V DC motor with a sprocket travels along a fixed chain inside a metal C-channel. (Amazon also sells them, but there is no free shipping option.) Adding the wireless keypad gets the total price into the free-shipping category. Lowe's and HD both sell them for the same price ($228), but only on line: not in the stores. I read the reviews of the German-made* Sommer Synoris 550 opener and decided to buy one.
